Child Marriage

Child marriage is the formal or informal marriage of a child under the age of 18 mostly its the marriage of a young girl to an older boy or man, and it harms the child brides more than the boys.

Most of the girls who are married early were forced to do so by their parents, and later on forced by their husbands to drop out of school and not complete their education. Also, child brides are at high risk of dying because of having children while their body is still physically immature and that is risky to the baby as well, there is 60% more risk that the baby of the child bride will die in the first year of their life than the baby who are born to mothers 19 years or older.

 Moreover, raising a baby when the mom is still at a young age is so difficult because the mom may be not physically mature or prepared yet. Globally, almost 400 million women now aged 20-49 were married before the age of 18. And the reasons for child marriage vary, some families believe that in this way they’re protecting their daughters and others believe that they’re helping them live a better economic life. However, the consequences of child marriage are negative. Children of child brides are 60 percent more likely to die in the first year of life than those born to mothers older than 19, and families of child brides are more likely to be poor and unhealthy.
